1. Read the material line like a contract
Genuine sellers state the alloy. Look for:
- 925 / .925 / S925 / sterling silver = 92.5% silver (daily-wear standard)
- 999 / fine silver / 足银 = softer, common on baby bangles and some adult bangles
Walk away from:
- Silver tone / silver colour / silver look
- “High quality metal” with no number
- “Thai silver” with no 925/999 grade

2. A 925 stamp is step one, not the finish line
Ask for (or open the gallery and find) a macro of the stamp on the jewellery itself.

- Magnet on the main body — real silver is not magnetic. A clasp spring can tug; the chain or bracelet body should not.

- Weight vs size — a “solid” cuff that feels like hollow plastic is wrong.

3. Mall / Preferred helps. It is not magic.
Shopee’s own scam guidance points shoppers to Shopee Mall and Preferred Seller badges, and warns against unrealistically low prices and listings that push you off-platform.
Use badges as a filter, then still run checks 1–2 and 4. A Mall store can list plated fashion jewellery honestly. A Preferred seller can still use “silver tone” wording. Your job is to buy the material, not the badge.
If the seller cannot answer “Is the base metal 925 or brass?” in one sentence, you have your answer.
4. Fair price floor in Malaysia (2026)
Bullion trackers in late August / early September 2026 showed silver spot in Malaysia around RM8.7–RM8.9 per gram (it moves daily with USD and the ringgit). Jewellery is not sold at spot:
- You pay for design labour, clasp, stones, plating, QC, gift box, and returns.
